Jim, who received an OBE in 2001 for his services to charity, said: “This is outrageous. Can you imagine if I had used the phrase “someone of that kind” to describe Sadiq Khan? There would be outrage, I would be called racist and I would be banned from public life.
“So what is this ‘kind’ he’s talking about? White working class men maybe? It seems that Mr Khan is suggesting that there is something sinister about those who support the Conservative Party, which, if I remember correctly, came to power democratically by a large majority.
“I would also suggest that most celebrities vote conservative, Mr. Mayor. They are just too scared to admit it because they would be bullied into silence by people like you who believe that the left means “good” and everyone who has a different opinion.political opinion must be the bad guy.
“Perhaps the mayor of what was once the largest city in the world should turn his attention to rising crime rates, children being stabbed to death every day, police departments losing control and public services falling apart, rather than making slanderous statements about a comedian – and in turn the thousands of voters who brought the Conservative Party to power.
“Shame on you, Mr. Khan. You should know better.”
