All 90s kids can get ready for a nostalgic ride when Archie Andrews and his friends return, but with a twist. The Archies universe gets a Indian adaptation which is controlled by Zoya Akhtar. The film features an ensemble cast with debutants Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan‘s grandson), Suhana Khan (daughter of Shah Rukh Khan) and Khushi Kapoor (Wednesdayhis daughter). The first look of the film was released on Netflix on Saturday.
Netflix shared the teaser on Twitter, writing: “The sun is out, the news is out! Come meet your new friends. We present to you the cast of The Archies, directed by the fantastic Zoya Akhtar.” The Archies is a musical set in the 1960s.
All three youngsters resemble their comic book counterparts, but with noticeable adjustments. Suhana has long black hair, like Veronica, while Khushi has bangs. Agastya didn’t have Archie’s famous red hair, but he appeared to have curled his locks in the character’s style with a slight shade of red.
The film’s official logline reads: “A musical experience full of childhood, rebellion, friendships, first loves and all things young adults still promises to have something for every generation. We can’t wait to see the new kids around !” The announcement video has an Ankur Tiwari music track in the background.
Suhana’s acting debut has long been rumored. She first spoke about her ambitions in a 2018 Vogue interview. “I don’t think there was a moment where I decided. From an early age I did all these accents and impressions. But my parents didn’t realize I was serious about acting until they first saw my performance. I played Miranda in a school play of The Tempest,” she said.

The Archies began production in April and producer Reema Kagti shared a slate from day one of shooting, writing on Instagram: “Archie’s shoot begins, Tiger Baby’s first solo production #partnerincrime @zoieakhtar @Netflix.”
Zoya Akhtar had previously said that the comic was part of her childhood and teenage years. “I’m super excited to have the opportunity to bring The Archies to life. It was a big part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and loved worldwide, which is why I’m a little nervous. I need to ensure that the film evokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up with the comic and yet resonates with today’s young adults,” Akhtar said in a statement.
The Archies, starring Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda, will stream on Netflix in 2023.
