What is Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list?
The winners of Glassdoor’s 15th annual Employees’ Choice Awards recognize the best places to work in the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany. The awards are based on input from employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback on the job site with company reviews about their job title, work environment and employer over the past year, according to Glassdoor.
In the US, Glassdoor’s 100 Best Places to Work recognizes employers with 1,000 or more employees, as well as 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For, which recognizes employers with fewer than 1,000 employees. Winners are ranked based on their overall rating from the past year, the company said. Ratings are based on a five-point scale, with five being the highest score. Employees rate employers on several characteristics of the workplace, including career opportunities and culture and values. Of the 2.3 million employers reviewed on Glassdoor, the average company score is 3.7.
“The past year has brought extreme highs and lows for job seekers and employees, but despite an increasingly precarious job market, Glassdoor data shows that there are still companies hyper-focused on creating great employee experiences,” said Christian Sutherland-Wong , Chief Executive Officer of Glassdoor , in a statement. “It is encouraging to see companies increasing their commitment to employee mental health and well-being, diversity and inclusion, competitive advantages and flexible work environments as we move into 2023.”

Methodology for Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list
All Employees’ Choice Award winners are selected based on Glassdoor’s proprietary award algorithm, and each employer’s rating is determined by the quantity, quality, and consistency of Glassdoor-approved company reviews submitted by US-based employees between October 19, 2021 and October 17, 2022, the company said. During the one-year eligibility period, employers eligible for the large list must have received at least 75 assessments, and employers eligible for the small and medium list must have received at least 30 assessments, respectively, for each of the nine workplace attributes account taken into account as part of the reward algorithm. The nine workplace attributes are:
- Overall rating of the company.
- Career opportunities.
- Compensation and Benefits.
- Culture and values.
- Diversity and inclusion.
- Higher leadership.
- Work life balance.
- Recommend to a friend.
- Business outlook for six months. Employees can note whether they think their employer’s six-month business outlook is positive or negative or whether they have no opinion.
When employees submit reviews of their employer on Glassdoor, they are asked to share their thoughts on some of the top reasons for working for their employer (pros) and any drawbacks (cons), and are encouraged to provide advice to the management, the job site said.
